About Me

is lasik surgery something for you to consider?

Are you tired of fighting with your contact lenses each morning or struggling to find your glasses in the middle of the night so you can see what time it is? Have you ever considered getting lasik eye surgery to eliminate the need for your glasses and contact lenses? I put off getting the procedure completed for several years, but after having it done, my only regret is waiting so long to do it. If I was to add up how much it cost me to replace my glasses and contacts over the years, the cost of having the surgery performed was nothing. I have done my best to include any information that anyone considering getting lasik surgery needs to make an educated decision.

Is The Autoimmune Disease Guillain-Barre Syndrome Causing Your Leg Weakness?

If you are regularly suffering from weak legs, it can be exasperating to move. It can not only make it difficult to walk up stairs, but even difficult to stand. Recurring weak legs may be caused by the immune system problem known as Guillain-Barre syndrome.

Weak Legs Can Be Caused By Many Problems

Before assuming that you have Guillain-Barre syndrome, it is important to weed out whether or not you have another problem that could be causing weak legs. For example, people who have exercised regularly or sat for too long may feel weakness in the muscles due to overuse and under use. Unfortunately, weak legs can also be a symptom of a stroke.

Other problems include sciatica, pinching in the spinal cord, myasthenia gravis, multiple sclerosis, and even certain toxins and poisons. Generally leg weakness caused by these problems will be accompanied by symptoms associated with those diseases.

Guillain-Barre Syndrome Symptoms

If your doctor has assured you that you don't have any of the above-mentioned conditions, you need to understand the autoimmune symptoms of Guillain-Barre syndrome. When you have weak legs, check yourself to see if you have any of these problems:

  • Numbness in your extremities
  • Weakness that spreads to your upper body
  • Difficulty walking or climbing stairs
  • Problems with facial muscles
  • Chewing concerns
  • Bladder or bowel dysfunction
  • Blood pressure problems (whether high or low)
  • Problems breathing

As this disease attacks your immune system, an immunologist may be necessary to help treat these conditions and make them less severe. The following treatments are all a positive way to impact Guillain-Barre syndrome and eliminate your leg weakness.

Treatments Are Possible

Guillain-Barre syndrome will continually attack your body and cause weakness in your legs that can be hard to overcome. While there is no cure for this disease known yet, there are multiple types of treatments that can decrease its severity. These include plasma exchange and the use of high-dose immunoglobulin therapy that will increase the function of your immune disease.

Other treatments include injections of proteins and steroid hormones that continue to boost the strength of your immune system is a positive way. As your immune system increases in efficiency, Guillain-Barre syndrome will cease attacking your legs and causing weakness.

As a result, it is important to continue boosting your immune system in any way possible. An immunologist can diagnose you with this disease and find a treatment method that will eliminate this disease from your life for good. You can find an immunologist at an asthma and allergy clinic like Deyarman Allergy & Asthma Clinic.
