About Me

is lasik surgery something for you to consider?

Are you tired of fighting with your contact lenses each morning or struggling to find your glasses in the middle of the night so you can see what time it is? Have you ever considered getting lasik eye surgery to eliminate the need for your glasses and contact lenses? I put off getting the procedure completed for several years, but after having it done, my only regret is waiting so long to do it. If I was to add up how much it cost me to replace my glasses and contacts over the years, the cost of having the surgery performed was nothing. I have done my best to include any information that anyone considering getting lasik surgery needs to make an educated decision.

Does Your Wrist Hurt? 2 Things That May Be Causing This Pain

If you are feeling pain in your wrist area, this could be be caused by many things. No matter the reason you are having this problem, it can make it difficult for you to get through each day. Below are two things that can cause this, so you can get the help you need.

Tenosynovitis

Tenosynovitis is also known as tendon sheath inflammation. This problem may result if you have an injury to your tendon, or any surrounding bone or muscle in the wrist area. This problem also often occurs in people that perform repetitive activities, such as typing at the computer, assembly line work, musicians, carpenters, and weeding the garden throughout the growing season.

You may have an underlying health condition causing this problem. These conditions include:

Besides feeling pain, the joints in your hands may be so stiff that it makes it hard to move, the joint area may be tender when touched, and you may see redness of the skin.

Gout

Gout means you have a buildup of uric acid in your blood. If you have very high levels of uric acid, your body may form hard crystals in the joints.

Gout is generally seen in the big toe, but it can also be found in the hand joints. The pain can be so intense; your wrist may feel like it is on fire.

Your kidneys remove the uric acid from your body when you urinate. Other things that can cause this problem are diuretics (water pills), cyclosporine, which may cause kidney damage.

Eliminating foods that are high in uric acid may be all that you need to do to take care of this problem. Some foods that have a high acid content includes:

  • Red meat
  • Asparagus
  • Cauliflower
  • Mushrooms
  • Beans

If you do not completely eliminate these foods, eating much less of them can make a difference.

The area that has the gout will become red, swollen, and very painful to touch. You will find it painful to move your hand at all, and will keep getting worse over time.

These are just two problems that can cause gout. Because of this, you should make sure you see a doctor if you have wrist pain. They can determine what is causing it, and give you the proper treatment, which may be medication, or in some cases, you may need to have hand surgery. If this is the case, your doctor will refer you to hand surgery specialists for guidance.
